M3GAN 2.0 – Everything Including Plot, Cast, Director & More

M3GAN is coming back as fans hold their breath for M3GAN 2.0.

The film will be a sequel to its hit predecessor which grossed around $30.4 million on its domestic opening.

And, per reports, it is set to centre around the same killer doll as in the first movie.

So, here’s what is known thus far in relation to M3GAN 2.0’s plot, returning cast and release date.

M3GAN 2.0’s Plot – What We Know

M3GAN 2.0’s plot, storyline or synopsis isn’t known officially, but internet clues have made the picture somewhat clear.

Like the original, the second part will likely be played around M3GAN, short for Model 3 Generative Android.

Additionally, the initial movie’s ending hinted at this possibility in the forthcoming sequel.

M3GAN, during the movie’s ultimate fight sequence, gets destroyed physically.

However, the film’s last scene hinted to movie-goers how she might have uploaded her consciousness into an A.I.

Interestingly, director Gerard Johnstone, during his chat with Variety, called M3GAN‘s finale “open-ended.”

There are so many ideas that we had and facets of M3GAN‘s personality that we wanted to explore.

“I totally think there’s there’s more to say. And I know that M3GAN would have more to say,” Johnstone added further.

As of this writing, the movie is slated for release on Jan 17, 2025. However, that could change with time.

The Cast of M3GAN 2.0?

If reports are believed, Amie Donald and Jenna Davis, the actress and voice artist in the movie, haven’t yet received casting calls.

However, Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will reprise their roles as Gemma and Cady in the M3GAN sequel.

In the film, Cady is Gemma’s niece, and M3GAN‘s playmate.

Likewise, Gemma is a robotics expert and the creator of the killer toy.

Who Would Direct and Produce M3GAN 2.0?

M3GAN 2.0’s prequel director Johnstone is yet to confirm if he wants to return for the sequel.

But, he did reveal he “would love” to work on M3GAN 2.0.

The director added,

How can I not be interested? Now that the film’s finished and people that are embracing it.

Akela Cooper, who penned the original movie’s screenplay, will return for 2.0.

Similarly, producers Jason Blum and James Wan are likely to take charge for the next part.

The Blum House mastermind and the Conjuring director reportedly began discussing a sequel prior to M3GAN‘s release.

Lastly, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Ryan Turek, Mark Katchur, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath would remain executive producers.

When Will M3GAN 2.0 Start Production?

Blum, prior to M3GAN‘s release, told New York Times that Universal Pictures was “so pleased” with how M3GAN turned out.

The first impressions were so encouraging, a sequel was planned beforehand.

Blum, after the film’s release, acknowledged breaking his ultimate rule of not talking about a sequel before the movie’s release.

“I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do,” Blum said.

The movie would be jointly produced under Wan’s Atomic Monster and Blum’s Blumhouse banner.

Unfortunately, nothing concrete regarding M3GAN‘s pre-production, shooting schedules, and post-production dates is yet known publicly.
