‘The Reign’, ‘The Rain’ of the Reds!
3 min readWalk on through the storm…Walk on through the rain, though your dreams be tossed and blown, walk on.
These are the famous lines from arguably the world’s greatest football anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ also popularly known as the Liverpool Anthem sung beautifully by Gerry Marsden.
The song explains how passionate a Kopite should be and how every one of them must hold their head up through bad times.
In addition, the Gerry and the Pacemakers classic urges Reds supporters to have faith in their hearts and never stop believing despite all the odds as there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
The Reds’ Glorious Past
Liverpool supporters have enjoyed success on numerous occasions during different time periods in the illustrious history of the club.
The famous ‘Reds Reign’ throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s made Liverpool the team that every other side dreamed of becoming.
Their success felt as if winning silverware was the club’s everyday activity establishing the Merseyside outfit as one of the elites in the history of the game.
Although Liverpool have won every title and trophy in English football and in European competitions, the Premier League title has always eluded them since the competition’s inaugural season in 1991.
For every Liverpool supporter, the club lifting their maiden Premier League title is just a big dream.
However, the dream hasn’t died as the Kopites still believe that one day soon the club will make it happen.
Dreaming and Believing Never Stop
It was just last season, Liverpool made the eventual winners Manchester City fight till the final seconds of the competition.
Even though they narrowly missed out on the League title, Liverpool faithful started believing that days are not far when the club will have their mark on the PL title.
Talking about the season after, Liverpool are currently a hit-and-miss team; more of a miss and just a handful of hits.
Presently, Liverpool supporters have given up hopes of Liverpool’s title charge and the situation doesn’t favor even a top-four finish.
As for now, it looks very tough with Arsenal likely to be Liverpool’s competitor to battle it out for the fourth spot.
Brendan Rodgers and the Future of The Reds
Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers was the most talked about manager last season.
His impressive showing with Liverpool preferably out-shadowed league-winning manager Manual Pellegrini, as Rodgers was voted the ‘Best manager’ in all of the English division by the LMA.

Further, his tactics and game plans were widely praised with his substitutions being spot on most occasions.
Whatever Rodgers was doing, he was doing it right.
Given the Northern Irish’s progress, a portion of Liverpool supporters made comparisons of him with the legendary Bill Shankly.
Unfortunately, the same Rodgers is under the microscope at present for all the wrong reasons.
The Reds Rain
I will now come to my final point and conclude this article by doing so.
There is no way that Liverpool FC will lift the PL title this season, however, there is still a chance the Reds will lift at least a silverware.
In the remainder of the season, Liverpool are yet to play Chelsea in the Semi-Finals of the League cup and try their luck in the FA cup as well as the Europa League.
So for me in terms of securing the coveted PL title, this is another season wasted because I believe ‘twenty-five’ years is a very long time not to win one for the least.
Therefore, the ‘Rain’ continues to pour with Liverpool supporters desperately waiting for their ‘golden sky,’ keeping the faith with ‘hope’ in their hearts.
